La Grange Inn
The La Grange Inn & General Store
Nestled in the heart of La Grange, the La Grange Inn is composed of three board-and-batton-sided, tastefully restored railroad overnight houses which were moved to La Grange from their original "stations" in Whiteville, TN. The Inn is located appropriately along what is now the Norfolk-Southern Railway, at 240 Pine Street. Incidentally, this is the same railroad which was used by the early day locomotives under the La Grange-Memphis Railway Company chartered in 1835.
The three houses provide five private cottage accomodations each with bedroom, bath, sitting room, woodburning fireplace, private entrance and porch. A small health spa is also available. A gourmet/continental breakfast is a main event, as well as canoe trips down the Wolf River, biking, and hiking throughout the scenic and historic countryside. The Inn (a part of the La Grange General Store) is open only on a "seasonal/special events" schedule, so reservations should be made well in advance by calling Nora and Wallace Witmer at (901) 878-1000, or write to: P.O. Box 2, La Grange, TN 38046.
